High cap detection
High cap control detects when a cap is cross-threaded or not fully down. This inspection can help control leakers and product spoilage.
It can also ensure the making of a seal within the cap. For example, powdered milk or coffee has a seal inside the cap that needs the cap to be fully down if it is to seal.
This detection process can be performed using a "high beam". That is, if a product is ‘x’ mm higher than nominal it will break the beam and ‘fail’. This tends to be a coarse inspection as an allowance needs to be made for bottle, cap and conveyor tolerances.
Where the inspection needs to be more accurate or where there is a significant variation in containers (e.g. in carbonated PET bottles) we use a vision system to compare the dimensions of the container / closure at three points. Comparison of the three measurements with a nominal will identify a high cap.
